Body

What do you want to happen with your body when you die? We’ve put together a collection of resources and ideas to help you answer that question.

From cremation to green burials to becoming an organ donor, there are a number of options:

  • Green Burials - Going "green" is the trend in many categories, and the funeral industry is no exception.  While still relatively new, there are many options including biodegradable caskets and "green" burial grounds.

  • Donation Options - Choosing to donate your organs or to donate your body to science are common choices. You can still have a the memorial service you want while also doing good with your body. It’s important to know that arrangements sometimes need to be made prior to your death for this to occur.

  • Cremation - Cremation is becoming a more popular choice, and is always more affordable than an in-ground burial.  Cremation also allows more time to get things in order for the service as well as more options on where to have it.

  • In-Ground Burial - Traditional in-ground burials are still a very common choice. Funeral homes continue to be a wonderful resource and are neccessary for traditional burial services.

  • Mausoleums and Crypts - Above ground entombment is another traditional option. Rather than having your remains buried in-ground, they are entombed in a specially designed building above ground that can be visited by loved ones.

  • Alternative Options - In addition to more traditional options, there are a number of emerging and alternative options available such as cryopreservation, mummification, and resomation (a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional cremation).

It’s also worth remembering that many religions and groups have their own set of traditions around the handling of the body after death. Learn more about specific funeral traditions here.

With so many options available today, you can make a choice that is truly a reflection of you.
