Poems for Mom
They talk about a mother’s sphere
Adapted from Henry W. Longfellow
They talk about a mother's sphere,
As though it had a limit;
There's not a place in earth or heaven,
There's not a task to mankind given,
There's not a blessing or a woe,
There's not a whisper, Yes or No,
There's not a life, or death, or birth,
That has a feather's weight of worth,
Without a mother in it.
Lives of great women all remind us
We can make our lives sublime
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time.
I had an angel here beside me,
Sent to Earth to help and guide me,
An angel always there for me
Sent to love and care for me.
She did the things that angels should:
She taught me what was bad and good,
She gave me hope when no one cared,
She held my hand when I was scared,
She cheered me up when I was down
(She could make a smile from a frown),
She doctored me when I was sick,
And many another angel trick.
Today my angel earned her wings
Her harp, halo and other things.
But today I am lost and all alone
For today God took my mother home.
Remember Me
Remember me with smiles not tears,
For all the joy through all the years.
Recall the closeness that was ours,
A love as "sweet" as fragrant flowers.
Don't dwell on thoughts that cause you pain,
We'll see each other once again.
I am at peace...try to believe,
It was my time...I had to leave.
But "what a view", I have from here,
I see your face, I feel you near,
I follow you throughout the day,
You're not alone along the way.
And when god calls you...you will be ,
Right by my side...right here with me.
Till then, I'll wait by heaven's door,
We'll be united...evermore!
She has gone across the river;
To the shore of ever green;
And we long to see her dear face;
But the river slows between.
Some day, sometime, we shall see;
The face we loved so well;
Some day we'll clasp her loving hand;
And never say farewell.
The cares of the world concern me no longer.
I have completed this life. My work is done, the children of my heart grown.
My family is well on their journey and happy and healthy in their pursuits…
I have loved much and well
To those I leave behind,
I hope I will remain in their hearts as they will in mine…
Thank you for taking such good care of me
And all of you who have been my friends,
thank you for teaching me about life and about love.
Go in peace and in blessings for the day.
You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow, because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she’s gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
A wonderful mother, woman and aid;
One who was better God never made;
A wonderful worker, so loyal and true;
One in a million-mother was you.
Just in your judgment, always right;
Honest and liberal, ever upright;
Loved by your friends, all you knew;
A wonderful mother - mother was you.
Our family circle has been broken;
A link gone from our chain;
But though we're parted for a while;
We know we'll meet again.
Some day, we know not when;
We shall meet in a better land;
And never part again.
We shall meet with many a loved one;
That was torn from our embrace;
We shall listen to their voices;
And behold them face to face.
Sunshine passes, shadows fall;
Love's remembrance outlasts all
God created Mothers;
For He knew there had to be;
A very "Special Person";
Who could guide a family.
He gave them warmth and tenderness;
And lots of love to share;
He taught them how to listen;
And showed them how to care.
He sent them here to guide us;
From the moment of our birth;
God's "Very Best Creation";
Was my Mom here on earth.
You were someone I could talk to;
That no one can replace.
You were someone I could laugh with;
'Til tears ran down my face.
You were someone I could turn to;
When I needed a helping hand;
You were someone I could count on;
To advise and understand.
You were someone I thought more of;
As each year came to an end.
You were my dearest mother;
And also my dearest friend.
Thank you for the memories;
That are yours and mine alone;
For they recall so many special moments;
That you and I have known.
The Magic of a Mother's Touch
Anon
There's magic in a Mother's touch,
There's love in everything she does
to make our lives worthwhile.
We can find both hope and courage
Just by looking in her eyes.
Her laughter is a source of joy,
her works are warm and wise.
There is a kindness and compassion
to be found in her embrace,
and we see the light of heaven
shining from a Mother's face.
The Mother
by Robert Service
There will be a singing in your heart,
There will be a rapture in your eyes;
You will be a woman set apart,
You will be so wonderful and wise.
You will sleep, and when from dreams you start,
As of one that wakes in Paradise,
There will be a singing in your heart.
There will be a rapture in your eyes.
There will be a moaning in your heart,
There will be an anguish in your eyes;
You will see your dearest ones depart,
You will hear their quivering good-byes.
Yours will be the heart-ache and the smart,
Tears that scald and lonely sacrifice;
There will be a moaning in your heart,
There will be an anguish in your eyes.
There will come a glory in your eyes,
There will come a peace within your heart;
Sitting 'neath the quiet evening skies,
Time will dry the tear and dull the smart.
You will know that you have played your part;
Yours shall be the love that never dies:
You, with Heaven's peace within your heart,
You, with God's own glory in your eyes.
A Mother's Love
by Helen Steiner Rice
A Mother's love is something
that no on can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away . . .
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking . . .
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems . . .
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation . . .
A many splendoured miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.
God Saw You Getting Tired
Frances and Kathleen Coelho
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put His arms around you
And whispered "Come to me."
With tearful eyes we watched you
As you slowly slipped away
And though we loved you dearly
We couldn't make you stay.
Your golden heart stopped beating
Your tired hands put to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep
by Mary Frye
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die...
Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

I Thought Of You Today
I thought of you with love today
but that is nothing new
I thought about you yesterday
and days before that too.
I think of you in silence
I often speak your name
All I have are memories
and your picture in a frame
Your memory is my keepsake
with which I'll never part
God has you in his keeping
I have you in my heart.
Irish Funeral Prayer
You can only have one mother
Patient kind and true;
No other friend in all the world,
Will be the same to you.
When other friends forsake you,
To mother you will return,
For all her loving kindness,
She asks nothing in return.
As we look upon her picture,
Sweet memories we recall,
Of a face so full of sunshine,
And a smile for one and all.
Sweet Jesus, take this message,
To our dear mother up above;
Tell her how we miss her,
And give her all our love.
What is a Mom?
by Anon
A mom is one of life's best gifts,
Someone to treasure all life through,
She's caring and loving,
Thoughtful and true,
Someone who is always a special part of your life,
Someone who holds a prime place in your heart,
She's a mentor, a confident and also a friend,
Someone on whose love you can depend.
A mom always has your best interests at heart,
She's someone so dear and so good,
She's a blessing, she's a gift,
She's a treasure like no other,
She's someone that is truly wonderful.
Wherever you go, and whatever you do,
A mom’s love will always see you through,
A mom is truly invaluable,
Indispensable and unforgettable.
I wouldn't want anyone but you,
And that's why I'm so grateful,
that life picked you for me.
In memory of my mother
by Mary Estelle
You were a precious gift from God above,
so much beauty, grace and love.
You touched our hearts in so many ways,
your smile so bright even on the bad days.
You heard God's whisper calling you home,
you didn't want to go and leave us alone.
You loved us so much, you held on tight,
till all the strength was gone and you could no longer fight.
He had called your name twice before,
you knew you couldn't make him wait anymore.
So you gave your hand to God and slowly drifted away,
knowing that with our love we will be together again some day.
