Consumer Reports has put together this great checklist to follow when a person dies. It covers everything you need to know in case of the death of a loved one.
Much of it is prescriptive and easy to follow. And there are even things you may not have thought to consider such as arranging care for their pets
Here’s an excerpt about what to do within a few days of death:
8. If the person was in the military or belonged to a fraternal or religious group, contact that organization. It may have burial benefits or conduct funeral services.
9. Ask a friend or relative to keep an eye on the person’s home, answer the phone, collect mail, throw food out, and water plants.
You can never be totally prepared for the death of a loved one, but there are some simple steps to follow that can reduce the stress and burden.
